How to add widgets by using functions

    i have create a theme from scratch and now i am faced with a problem.

    i want to know how to add widgets to my theme. basically i have added some code to my functions page and i’m able to add the widgets from my dashboard now but the widgets are not showing in my sidebar.

    i have created a sidebar php file and included that in my wordpress theme. it is in that sidebar that i want to display the widgets.

    How to?
