    Hi

I am currently using version 5.3.7 of the events manager plugin. However I have been advised by my web host the the site is ‘spawning multiple php processes’ which is consuming all of the server’s cpu. Due to this they have suspended my site until this has been rectified.

Therefore could you please advise if version 5.3.7 was causing such an issue and if so, if any of the newer versions of the plugin have fixed the problem. Please be aware that I am not a developer or programmer so I have not changed/hacked the code in your plugin, however my site uses these plugins.

    events manager – 5.3.7
    business directory – 3.0.2
    wp-ui – 0.8.7
    magic action box – 2.9.5
    jet pack – 2.2.2
    yoast seo – 1.4.6
    wow slider – trunk
    contact form 7 – 3.3.1
    recaptcha – 0.0.12

Any advise or information that you can offer regarding the php spawning issue or possible conflicts with the other plugins would be most appreciated.

    Kindest regards
    Val

hmmm, another thing is try is to deactivate all other plugins one by one to see if this resolves your issue or maybe you can ask your host to give you a copy of the log and check what consumes the cpu usage; also, can I know how many events do you have?

    Hi thanks for the response.

They have moved the site to what they call a ‘probationary server’ so I am unable to view the site only its files, so I’m unable to deactivate the plugins one by one to see if this sorts the problem out.

Also I have asked for a copy of the log and they have told me to check the ‘logfile folder found on your webspace’. However I can not see a file/folder by this name anywhere.

I had just added some events and had gone from approx 70 to 650 entries.

    Thanks again for your help.

Oh I have found the logfile but there are no log entries for when the php spawning was taking place. There are only logs for after they suspended the site.

I have requested copies of the log for the site when it was live and causing the php spawning.

    Hiya,

Without more information from your host it is difficult to say what is causing your issue.

However, we have had no other reports of high usage like this with Events Manager.

There are a myriad of possible causes, including attempted hacking attempts, infinite loops in plugin/theme code, high memory usage.

Figuring out the cause will require more info from your hosting company, so I suggest you ask them to give you a bit more assistance…

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Hi Phil

Thanks for the response. Yes more information is needed, however hosting company haven’t been to swift on coming forward with the info, hence to post. But I will keep on at them.

    Thanks again.

Have you recently edited your theme files? Sometimes badly placed if / else statements can cause usage to soar.

    Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. I have managed to resolve the problem, it turns out the site was hit by a brute for attack, so I have added more security to prevent/handle this in the future.

    Thanks again
    Val 😀
