Unicode support in subject and from fields

After updating to the latest version of the plugin, v1.6.41, Unicode support was lost for text in subject and from fields of arriving messages.
The solution for Unicode text inside message body, by adding “charset=utf-8” in Content-type line under Custom E-Mail Notifications, still works. But, subject and from field contain gibberish text when Unicode characters in them. Using PHP send method.
Any idea how to solve this?
