NextGen won't display Slideshow as default

After upgrading to WP 3.6, I can no longer get the slideshow to display as the default view. Whenever i select slideshow, it reverts back to thumbnail view and with that i get this message – Invalid Displayed Gallery
The slideshow will simply not display as a default setting.
