Last night someone made repeated attempts to log into my admin account. The result was that WordPress locked down the account. I got an email giving me this message:

“For your security, your account has been locked because of too many failed login attempts. To unlock your account please click the following link: …”

I clicked the link, and it said the unlock key was invalid…but it did give me a password reset link, which apparently worked. However, that password won’t get me in: I input user name and password, click “Log In,” and the only thing that happens is the page refreshes with the url “/?instance=1”. Apparently, while the password is valid, the account is still locked.

Is there any way to fix this?

  • WordPress does not do that – do you have security plugin? If not, it may be your hosting company.

I’m using Theme My Login. I can’t log in to disable it…would it work if I just renamed the folder so that WordPress can’t find it?

    Certainly worth a try.

That worked. I made another admin login so this can’t happen again (unless someone attacks both).

I was locked out of my own account for using the wrong log in. I have the correct user name and password but I am locked out for 144 hours!! How can fix this so I can have access sooner?
    Thanks.
