• I had a perfectly functioning Multisite network on WP 3.5.2 (with NO plugins), hosting with WordPress-recommended Bluehost.

I got a message to update to 3.6, and clicked my agreement. This seemed to work OK. Then I got a second message, this time telling me to upgrade my network, clicked on it, and got warnings:

Warning: include ***/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php): failed to open stream:

No such file or directory in ***/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 58.

Warning: include(): Failed opening ***/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/php/53/usr/lib64:

    /usr/php/53/usr/share/pear’) in …./public_html/wp-settings.php on line 58

My site’s WP-admin is not found on a search, so I can’t fix this from the dashboard. I have already tried clearing my browser cache and cookies, to no avail. In the WordPress support forums, I see others have reported similar issues with 3.6 and multisite, but no one has resolved the issue.

I heard that Bluehost and some others in the same group of hosts had some major problems about a week ago, but I didn’t experience them at all because I wasn’t online then. That issue was resolved before I did this upgrade. My site worked perfectly until I clicked upgrade.

I had a long chat with a Bluehost support technician, who said “You’re missing the file for it, as well as your settings.php is messed up”. She gave me a backup of my database which I don’t know how to use.

This has got to be either a host issue or a WordPress issue. I picked Bluehost because WordPress recommends them, and I’ve seen cooperation between them in the support forums. I asked the Bluehost livechat technician to get together with WordPress to fix this, and she said she’d refer the matter to the people who do that. Now I’m asking the people at WordPress to get together with Bluehost and iron this out.

Bluehost fixed it for me! Here’s the email from Bluehost support, so anyone suffering from a similar problem could benefit:

Thank you for contacting support. Now this was odd, the errors it was giving after the upgrade. Given it started with php, I decided to check the roots. Changed the php version from 5.2 to 5.4 and it eliminated the first couple errors.

Warning: include(): Failed opening ***/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/php/53/usr/lib64:
    /usr/php/53/usr/share/pear’) in …./public_html/wp-settings.php on line 58

kept appearing for me and was still referring to the php.ini file. Making a couple adjustments I was able to remove the errors and it seems the wordpress is error free according the the error_log. I was able to find some of my answers here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/blog-went-blank-1
