Content Resize in CSS

    In order to resize the content box I used the following code but the text doesn’t stretch out, not sure how to do that,

    /* One column */

    .one-column #page {

    max-width: 1000px;
    min-width: 1000px;

    }

    .one-column #content {

    margin: 0 24%;
    width: auto%;

    }

    Any ideas?
