• Not sure what’s going on, but my theme has disappeared. My website is not stylized and I can’t see any rich text. Colors are gone, social media icons are gone, columns are gone. Here is my website http://longdrivejourney.com. I use Truly Minimal, and when I try to go into the backend and edit, the settings for Truly Minimal look like my website does.

    Any ideas on what to do? I didn’t write any code into this site, so I’m not sure what I can provide, but will try to give all needed information

  • Start by ‘regaining control’
    First check if a plugin could be the problem:

    1. Use FTP to access your site
      bv. http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
    2. rename all plugins by putting a ‘0’ in front of each plugin -folder;
      ../wp-content/plugins
    3. Check if the access / ‘normal functioning’ has been restored
    4. If so: one-by-one, remove the ‘0’, checking every time to see if the problem re-occurs.
    5. when the problem re-occurs, you’ve found the source of the problem; Delete and find a similar plugin that works with your site
    6. alternatively: FTP:Delete; Then download and install / activate a NEW version of the problematic plugin and see if this works.
      If that did NOT help:

    1. login as admin
    2. activate one of the WP-standard themes e.g. TwentyTwelve
    3. check if the site now looks ‘better’
    4. if so: remove the ‘broken’ original theme
    5. download and reinstall a fresh copy of your theme
    6. check if things are back to normal

    I removed the broken original theme and activated a standard one. All of the plugins seem to work, so I will just have to start over either with a new theme or try to rebuild everything to go along with my original one.

    I’m at a loss as to why this happened, as I didn’t just add a new plugin. One second it was fine, the next I log on and everything is gone.

    1. Just install a new version of your theme
    2. check and re-activate the menu
    3. and check if all is well
    4. This re-install of the theme should not require a ‘rebuild’.

    5. If things are still not well, do the plug-in check as described above again and remove the culprit

    == == == why all this happens?
    There are no two sites absolutely identical. Creating plugins that always work with every configuration is therefore virtually impossible!
    Anaother contributer my be a glitchy upgrade or update of your theme, WP, or a plugin.

    So what to do?
    BEFORE making changes [even small changes], make a BACK-UP of both the WP-files, and the DATABASE.

    Should things derail, you have a fallback position.
