• Hi –

New to wordpress. Here is my problem. I currently have a site up using a different set of blogging software. I am in the midst of redoing the site on a new server using wordpress. I would like to install wordpress on the new server and then work on the page using a preview site that my server offers – leaving my current site intact.

I was able to install wordpress just fine on the new server, however, when I go to login it attmepts to read files from my current (old) site rather than the preview (new) site. How do I fix it so that it won’t attmept to look for files in the old site? I would really like to set up the web site without it going public so any help would be great. Also, I use Laughing Squid as my server – if that helps.

  • I don’t think WP is looking for files on your old site. Maybe is looking for the Db on the old site…

Was WP installed on the old location where you “work on the page using a preview site”?
I have the impression you imported the “preview” to the new site – without changing the settings in the DB, so the site_url and home values in the options table point to the old site.
