    Same idea as this thread:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/update-problem-352-now-i-am-unable-to-log-in-post-or-access-the-back-end

I manage multiple websites and this one that I’m currently working on is the only one who prompted me to upgrade my database.

    Database Update Required
WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.
The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.
    BUTTON: Update WordPress Database

Click on the button and it brings me to the next screen:
    url suffix: …./wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

With only a WP logo showing. Nothing else. Browser isn’t moving or doing anything. Tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari to see if it was a browser issue. Apparently, it is not.

So… now I can’t access my back-end admin panel, but the site is working and live currently. Help?

Please note that my site is not marked as malicious and I DO have an upgrade.php file in my installation.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Hi Esmi,
I tried switching the default theme. It was a child theme, so I changed the child folder and added “-old” to it.

Resetting the plugins via FTP doesn’t work b/c I can’t access dashboard, but I’ll try doing phpMyAdmin (which I’m not very fluent in)>

And you wouldn’t want to delete the wp-config file though, correct? That’d be bad!

And how would I manually run the upgrade.php file?

Correct. Or your root .htaccess file.

how would I manually run the upgrade.php file?

    Using http://example.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php

Changed child theme folder name, reset plugins in phpMyAdmin, deleted all files except wp-content folder, .htaccess, and wp-config, and that page to use is the one that it is running me through in the first place that is looping, but tried again after I did those options.

Nothing changed. Still having the looping issue. :/

Anything in your site’s error logs? Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

Nothing from that specifically–I think they were errors when I was loading the website while re-installing the other files.
“no such file/directory.. etc etc.” from load.php.

I don’t see anything else related.

Have you checked the dates on these errors?

    Thread Starter brisus

    (@brisus)

Yes, they were today during my re-installation, but the files are all there now and working fine.

    I did that.

    UPDATE:
We reverted the installation back to the previous day and will try again tomorrow to see what we can do. Might try to switch to the default theme before upgrading and see if that is a possible answer.

Will update tomorrow once I have a chance to work this out.

    Update 7/3 @ 8:50a:
Reverted back to previous day installation; everything was working fine as expected. Tried switching theme to default (TwentyTwelve) and then running the update. Ran into the same loop/database won’t upgrade issue. πŸ™

    Update 7/5 @ 9:07a:
Can’t seem to locate the issue, but we now believe the the database loop/issue is related to a specific plugin, WP-table-reloaded, which just recently is no longer supported, but they do provide a new plugin, Tablepress, to use in place of it.

I am going to migrate to the new plugin and get rid of the old one and see if I can run the update through after that.

    Will keep you posted!

    Update 7/5 @ 11:15a:
Followed procedure to remove old plugin and tables and install new one. Worked fine. Changes theme to default, deactivated all plugins, and ran the update… same thing happened.

I could really use a hand!

So far, nothing has worked. Does anyone have a solution? I am using a child theme of the WP Start theme.
