Hey gang – My installation went correctly and used this 3rd party link which helped a lot:

    http://www.lucidgreen.net/wordpressGuides/everymansWPinstall.pdf

I can login through my wp-admin, create posts/pages, and moved around in the control area, BUT, my pages are not displaying. I’ve removed my old index.htm page and when it loads index.php (the new one), it’s a plain white page.

I’ve read the info about authorizing the .htaccess file and the content and admin folders. Not sure exactly where to do this, I FTP through IE (ftp://jamesvandellen.com). Should I be using a 3rd party FTP to give these rights?

I’ve searched several posts/how tos on .htacess, and still a bit confused about how this relates to uploading pages and creating the initial site at index.php, and curious if anything current on my site is obstructing the process (all my htm files). would like to leave them in place until my wordpress pages are created, then switch to the index.php page as home page.

Thanks in advance for the help – my site is http://www.jamesvandellen.com (current index is index.htm). and apologies for the crappy look in firefox/opera, but that’s why I’m moving towards wordpress, seems like a logical layout, and looking forward to cleaning up the look. I understand the basics of HTML and CSS, and wordpress seems very intuitive.

    all the best – james…

Do you have access to your server logs? In particular, it would be nice to know if anything shows up in the apache error logs when going to the index.php page.

I do – the logs are available on my FTP site (I use gearhost.com, who I’ve been happy with)

I see my various logins from work and home, and my uploads from the original wordpress folder, but not sure what else I should be looking for – I can post or e-mail them if needed.

    Thanks again

    Uhder:
    admin -> Options -> General
What are the 2 uri values there? They need to be exactly what your blog address really is.

thanks for checking — my values are both:

Does only one have http:// on it?

Both my Blog and WP URI are listed as

    http://www.jamesvandellen.com

Sorry I feel like I should be offering more, but if I get pointed in the right direction I think I can handle from there.

Headed home, will check back asap

    Thanks

If this helps simplify it – when editing my index.php file under Manage > Files – I click “update file” but up top it says “could not save file”

I’m guessing once I can upload a template index.php my page will display

Again thanks – all the best…
