Importing content from a previous WP version

I went through a problem that I see addressed time and time again in forums and that is importing content from a former database. I’m using GoDaddy as my host but I imagine other providers offer the same access to MySQL Admin.

In that you enter the name of the database as your user name and enter the name of the database and presto — total access to the tables.

Unfortunately, WP importer plugin would not up load the XML file it created, but at least I didn’t have to recreate all the content.
