• Hi, everybody!

I’m new on this WordPress thing and I’m looking for some help.

I bought a hosting plan with GoDaddy to host a website for my brother’s business and I bought this “primary domain” with them (doctoracuna.com.mx). After a couple of conversations my brother decided to change the domain to http://www.urologiamedicamonterrey.com so I bought that domain too. For some weird reason, I couldn’t change the primary domain of the GoDaddy hosting account to the new domain, so I had to alias the new domain to my hosting account. Both “doctoracuna.com.mx” and “urologiamedicamonterrey.com” both are pointing to the same website but in my GoDaddy account “urologiamedicamonterrey.com” (the new domain that my brother wanted) is just an alias. When I searched for the exact address of “urologiamedicamonterrey.com” on my browser I can see the page with this address, but when I navigate around the website the permalinks start with the prefix “doctoracuna.com.mx”.

After a couple of weeks the website appears on google as “www.doctoracuna.com.mx” and I don’t want that. So, couple of minutes ago I went to “Settings->General” on my wordpress account and I saw that the WordPress Address and Site URL were the domain I didn’t want, so I change those to “http://www.urologiamedicamonterrey.com” (the new domain that my brother wanted) and now the permalinks changed.

My question is: Does this little change that I made will cause my desired effect? I want to appear on the search in google with the new domain and not the old one! Or does google will take the domain registered as primary on my GoDaddy account?

    Thank you before hand!!!!

    Paco.

  • Which domain have you submitted to Google? Do you have a Google webmaster tools account? Have you submitted any sitemaps to Google?

If your site is running fine, WordPress does not have anything to do with indexing, ranking, etc. You have to set these things alright with Google.

    Thanks for your answer!

    I submitted http://www.urologiamedicamonterrey.com to google.
I don’t have a google webmaster tools account.
And hadn’t submmitted any sitemaps to google.

So,the fix of the problem is in solving the domains issue directly on GoDaddy or can I fix it setting correctly these things with Google?

    Thanks in advance!!!

I don’t have a google webmaster tools account.

Start by opening your account, submitting your sitemap, verifying ownership, etc.

Thanks for your answers. I submitted the page on my google webmasters tool account and verified only the domain that I wanted to appear with! Now I’m reading a tutorial for the Yoast SEO plugin and after optimizing all the website I’m going to send the sitemap to google!!

Thank you very much for your help!
