• I run a few websites for clients of the printshop where I work, as well as a couple of hobby sites. I am clinging desperately to Adobe Golive, mainly because I love the site management features & the MenuMachine plug-in – appears on every page, centrally editable.

However, all Macs old enough to run this software seem to be dying gradually although I maintain some old machines just for this purpose.

So, WordPress may well be my alternative. I’ve set up a few self-hosted blogs attached to websites, I pretty much get how it works on a basic level, I’m OK in html & css, doggy-paddling in php.

So, the sites I have are static and updated no more than monthly. Several are for parish or town councils, and it’s essential to be able to archive large-ish collections of eg minutes of meetings and other pdf documents. They have a number of sections, each with some sub-sections, and there are up to 150-ish pages.

I need a good menu on each page for sections, and a sub-menu within each section just for that one section. I need lots of images with zoom function. Clients are very wedded to the overall look of their sites – I hope my css + WordPress for Dummies will help me there!

Mods please remove if this is frowned on … two typical ones are http://www.madeleylocalhistory.org and http://www.littlewenlock.org

I would be extremely grateful for any tips on possible themes (happy to pay) or even to be told to forget WP and look elsewhere 🙂

    Thanks for any help!

  • All we can suggest is that you browse the themes in http://wordpress.org/themes/

Please bear in mind that themes usually control only layout and presentation of content. Any additional functionality – such as lightbox/zoom features – are usually added via plugins.
