Trying to update to version 3.5.1

    I keep getting this error as I’m trying to update my wordpress blog. I am You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page. I am not very computer savvy and am unsure what I should try to get it done. I am using a very very old version (like2.7) could this be the issue?
    Thanks for any tips or hints.

    Backup your site first.
    Deactivate all plugins and revert to WordPress default theme and try to update WordPress.
    You will have to update step by step as described here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

    Thank you Krishna, just before I make the jump and change anything. I have backed up in my cpanel and have a .gz file, is there anything else I have to do to back it up? Before I take the plunge and try to update?
