Change the urls back. See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly. Then see Giving WordPress Its Own Directory.
Which method do you recommend?
Ok so there were two theme folders in there: twenty eleven and twenty twelve. I changed the functions.php in both to :
update_option(‘siteurl’,’http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com’);
update_option(‘home’,’http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress’);
when I go to http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress/wp-login.php
I get the same error message.
What am I doing wrong?
Which theme are you using – Twenty Twelve or Twenty Eleven?
I’m sorry but I’m not sure… very new to this.
In that case, rename wp-content/themes/twentyeleven to wp-content/themes/twentyeleven-old. This will automatically activate the default Twenty Twelve theme.
Ok,
Changed that but still getting same error message.
Edit the functions.php file in 2012 and change:
update_option('siteurl','http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com');
update_option('home','http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress');
to:
update_option('siteurl','http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress');
update_option('home','http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress');
Edited the functions.php file in 2012 and getting same error message.
I will say that when I try to login at
http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress/wp-login.php
…I am forced to this page with error establishing a database connection
http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wp-login.php
Perhaps I should just reinstall WordPress as I just installed it.
At this point, I think that would be the simplest option. Did you install WordPress manually before or did you use a 1-click installer?
I did a manual install. I’m using laughing squid as my host.
I originally wanted to make my site accessible by simply using
wwww.chrisyoungjewelry.com instead of http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress.
I feel that simplicity has its benefits. Is this possible to change and would you recommend doing this or keeping it http://www.chrisyoungjewelry.com/wordpress?
Thanks so much for your help
I would suggest a re-install but this time, to do not upload the complete wordpress folder but just it’s contents.
