• I have created a 2-level custom menu in which all menu items (except for Home) are of the category type. I would like the top-level menu items (other than Home) to have no other function than to serve as parents for their sub-menu items. In other words, I do not want them to be associated with any category, link, or page. Is there a way to modify them to take the “category” association away? Secondly, is there a way to change a category menu item into a page menu item? Or do I have to delete it and re-create it as the other type? I did try http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide and some related forum threads looking for answers to these 2 questions.
    Thanks.

  • You can create “Custom Links” for those menu items – just put any url in them to add to the menu – then once in there, click the flippy triangle on the right end of the menu item and remove the URL and change the “Navigation Label” to whatever you want.

Thank you. I take it that in both cases, I need to delete the menu item in question and then create a replacement of a different type? So for example, to do what you are suggesting, I can’t change the existing menu item from a category to a link menu item?

Try just creating the new ones, then drag/drop the category items under them – wherever you want them to go.
