Custom permalinks not working

    I’m having trouble with custom permalinks.

    I’m trying to use permalinks in the /%postname%/ structure as I usually do. But the pages are returning a 404 error.

    I’ve checked my .htaccess file and it seems normal.

    The site isn’t in a subdomain, it’s in the root.

    The urls specified in the database and in wordpress are correct, so I’ve no idea what the problem is.

    Any advice?

    Check with your hosts that mod_rewrite is running on your server.

    Thanks for your help.

    I rang them and it turns out they use Zeus instead of Apache. So I applied the appropriate rules and the permalinks work, minus one – the homepage, which is returning an ‘Access denied’ error.

    Any idea why this would be?

    No idea – you need to speak to your hosts about using rewrite rules.
