Site crashing on Delete Cache

I maintain a blog with about 7000 posts. I’ve set WP Super Cache up to keep them for 30,000 seconds (about 8 hours). The contents of the cache are consistently between 3500 and 4500 pages. When I attempt to delete the cache, it hangs my login until the page finally times out. I can then go back in and attempt again. After about the 3rd or 4th attempt, the sites becomes unresponsive and I need to restart web services. I’ve resorted to changing the timeout to 10,000 seconds to keep the number of items in the cache lower, but it would be great if the plug-in could run a background process and feed the status via ajax or something. I can’t find anywhere to suggest this to the author, so I posted it here.
