Hey there I’m trying to remove the hover effect on the images in this portfolio theme. I just want to keep it simple. http://www.digitalblueberries.com/berquist/

Ideally I’d like to have no hover effect whatsoever (except cursor to indicate link over whole image) and click to open a lightbox.

As it is, the first two images, you can click the little magnifying glass in the corner to bring up the built in lightbox, but I’d like the whole image to be clickable.

What have your theme’s vendors said about these changes?

    here, I’ll quote them

“Hi, I am sorry but this is how the theme works by default. If you want to do what you say you will have to custom code it or hire someone to do so. We charge 70$/h for custom work.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.”

    real helpful, right?

Don’t you think they should get paid for work?

Heck yes I do. Massive Pixel Creation. I already asked for a refund. I don’t expect theme companies to overhaul a theme, but I think some support for minor changes is worth the $40.00 I paid.

This would be a simple fix if you knew JavaScript… but I’m guessing you don’t, or you wouldn’t have asked the question in the first place. There are plenty of great tutorials out there to teach you the JavaScript needed.

I could tell you how to do it, but it’s a little involved and would probably cause more damage than good, unless you had programming experience. Your best bet is to either pay for the help, or find a different theme. I CAN tell you that it won’t take more than 30 minutes to accomplish what you want… if it does, then either they don’t know how to program, or they are trying to charge you too much for easy work.

On a side note, I would look into a different solution anyway since the site fails completely if JavaScript is disabled. No images and no sub menu shows up! There should at least be a fall back to show the images with a link. I understand the whole lightbox thing, but there has to be SOME fall back if certain things aren’t supported. Showing nothing at all is amateur programming.

On subsequent pages your background images fail with no JavaScript either…

Sorry… the last comment about your background images not showing is incorrect… they are just really large images and take a while to load.

Okay, well I would agree that there is some middle ground/grey area as to what should be included for the price of a theme. But, of course, where that line should be depends on which end you are on :)!

That’s partly why we volunteers here tend to recommend the free themes on this site if you are likely to need help!

Ok, good advice. I should definitely learn javascript basics at some point.

I’m not worried about causing more harm. I just started this site, so I could restart from scratch if it crashed.

I’ve done basic editing in PHP in the editor before.

Indeed, yogi. I’ve bought themes before with support going waaay beyond what I expected (shout out to http://www.organizedthemes.com/ !!!) so until you get familiar with companies, it can be a dart game.

I’ll check out some freebies tho, thanks. And I already found this one: http://www.digitalblueberries.com/genesis/

(it’s not powered by genesis, btw)

and it pretty much does what I want, just not quite as sleek. But I can definitely touch it up with some css.

How can I remove the hover effect (that isolates and enlarges)for one image on only one page?

    Thanks!

@robbie, Try posting that in your own thread.
