Addendum: I notice the comments on options are available for new pages, but not for new posts…
If you do not see the Comments/Discussions panel on your post edit screen, it is most likely turned off. Click on the Screen Options in the top right and check the appropriate box.
I have the same problem. I have checked all the appropriate boxes in Discussion panel. Still, comments box is not visible on the articles page. I could get only ping back from other sites in moderation cue.
The comments box will only appear on the single post page and not on any archive page.

I just installed Magazine Basic and so far really like it. For some reason, though, I can’t get the Comments turned on. I’ve tried all the configurations in the Discussion section, but the most that happens is that I get a “Comments Off” come up in individual posts. Any idea what could be blocking the comments from being turned on?
