FYI, while researched a lot of plugins to decide which is best for a project I’m working on, I came across this comparison chart developed by the guys at PODS.

The chart details all the features of most of the plugins on the market (both free & premium) that create custom content types & fields. Most of the plugins features are verified by the plugin owners.

DB Toolkit is one of the most feature rich plugins on the list beating many of the rest by far. However, it’s features haven’t been verified by Desertsnowman. In fact, I believe they made a mistake on the chart when it comes to DB Toolkit.

The chart states that DB Toolkit does not do Custom Post Types, Custom Taxonomies, Override Post Types (args/labels), or Override Taxonomies (args/labels). From my understanding of this plugin, that’s not true.

I thought this chart would be of use to the community. The chart is available at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoY8IFUX301qdFhBaERLUEUwa3U0YjFYTnBmaU1mbmc#gid=3

Thanks for pointing that list out. It’s great to have the comparison available and I should have pointed it out a while ago.

I provided all the info for DBT on that list. I’m technically a contributor to Pods, although I’ve been inactive for a few months due to work. (SIGH!!) https://github.com/pods-framework?tab=members

DBT does not do native custom post types or any overrides to taxonomies, custom or otherwise. The reasons are simple; I had no idea what they where when I built it. Fortunately, the direction DBT is going, I feel they are not necessary. DBT Allows you to build new content mechanisms. Therefore adapting current structures defeats the object of forming new custom systems.

DBT is made to use WordPress as a platform, then you build your app on top of that layer, where is custom posts types allow you pull more out of the current.

I don’t feel DBT is better than any of the others listed. I have merely taken a different approach. And that difference, although feature rich, comes at the price of ease of use.
