weird escaping in post body

I have a post with pre section and WP seems to be doing a weird unneeded escaping of single- and double- quotes inside the pre tag. As a result, final output looks wrong. I’m completely puzzled – can anyone help?!

I do not use plugins like Textile or Markdown and I turned off all formatting options. I’m using wordpress 1.5.2.
