    hi,
I’m new on this plugin and lots of things I do not understand. πŸ™‚
First question: Do I need an API key?
next: all comments are spam or not? even if they are listed as spam.
Third: Can I check individual spam to see what is written in the text?
Fourth: Is there something I need to change the settings after activation of the plugin?
Maybe I have some question but later πŸ™‚
    Thanks for the help!

You can run the plugin without any API keys, StopForumSpam.com does not require an API key to check spam, although it does need one if you want to report spam. Some of the other spam databases require an API if you want to use them, but the plugin works fine if you don’t have their APIs.

The plugin does not accept spam, so if a spammer is detected he is immediately blocked so that the comment does not make it to the spam queue.

Since the plugin rejects the spam before it hits the database, the actual spam message is not recorded. If you want this, then just stick with Akismet.

You need to check the settings to see if the plugin is working. By default, I have some of the more aggressive settings turned off, but you may wish to activate them.
