WordPress static front page not working

I found dozens of threads on this topic and none of the typical stuff solved my issue, i.e. disabling plugins etc. After hours of frustration I finally got it to work. I figured I’d share my solution with the community.

1) Download entire theme

2) Change folder name to something else (example: twentyeleven to mynewtheme)

3) Change theme name in style.css (example: Theme Name: twentyeleven to Theme Name: mynewtheme)

4) Upload folder back to themes directory

5) Activate new theme and delete old one

I really hope this helps some of you because it drove me insane. I’m not sure how well this solution will work on custom themes. Maybe it was only useful in my unique situation.
