Confusing error: Admin username is not a valid WordPress login

    Using Postie v1.5.0

    On install, I get this error message:

    “Warning: the Admin username is not a valid WordPress login. Postie may reject emails if this is not corrected.”

    Since WordPress accepts my WordPress login and it works OK, I was confused as to why Postie throws this error. I see on looking at the settings that it is a Postie setting that needs to be changed on setup.

    I think a better error message would be:

    “Warning: change the Postie admin username in Postie settings to be a valid WordPress login. Postie may reject emails if this is not corrected.”

    Thinking again, WordPress already takes care of validating the username, so mentioning ‘valid’ is not needed. So the following would do:

    “Note: change the Postie admin username in Postie settings to match your admin login. Postie may reject emails if this is not fixed.”

    Same error here, but cannotfind anything in the Postie Settings with the label Admin Username.

    I see only Authorized Addresses, Mail Userid, Default Poster, and other clearly unrelated labels.

    Am using v1.5.8

    Sorry about that. I updating the label on the field, but forgot to change the error message.

    On the User tab look at the “Default Poster” setting. Make sure the correct user is selected and click Save Changes. Even if you don’t change the value click the Save Changes button.

    That helps part-way.
    There’s some other issue involved.
    The Default Poster lists users by nickname. If the WP Nickname differs from the WP Username, Postie seems to expect the nickname to provide access.

    Yes, sorry about that. I’ve fixed that in 1.5.9.
