Are you trying to find an old index.html file? WordPress files are all .php, so the index file is .php.
If you’re trying to find an old index.html file, try navigating directly to http://example.com/index.html
If you can’t view the index.php file, try reverting to the default theme to see if possibly your theme is to blame.
It will help us out more if you tell us if you’re getting a 404 error, directory listing, blank page, or something else?

If just a normal install some files appear to be in the wrong place.
