I am using CPanel | Fantastico to install WP in the root directory of a subdomain, but I get this error message:

You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

I had previously attempted an installation in that directory and removed it –the right way.

The root directory of the main domain name does not have a blog or a script-based CMS or anything like that, so I don’t think it’s confused between sub- and main domain folders.

Anyone know how to fix this?

  • You can always try a manual install.

Someday I will try a manual install, but for now, I don’t feel I know enough about how it works to try it. Actually, what do I have to lose? Maybe I’ll try it–and I’m sure somewhere on this site I’ll find written directions, too.

But in the meantime, if anyone knows the easy fix, I’d be happy to use that for now.

Alternatively you could try to install via Fantastico wher it will let you and then just move it over where you want to have it: Moving_WordPress
