Pop-Up

Before I get lectures about how this shouldn’t be done, pop-ups are rude, etc., I would like to note that it’s not my idea, (I hate the idea of it) but the guy I’m researching this for for wants it.

Is it possible to have “sign-up ( form/name field/email field/submit button/form)” pop-up appear only on the index page, and show only once? It is for an opt-in newsletter/ezine, not an advertisement.

The way I understand it is that if it’s in the template, it’ll come up all the time. That’s very undesireable. If I’m wrong about that, please let me know.

I’ve suggested alternative methods, but this pop-up is his preference(he’s really stuck on it).

So…can it be done? How?
