MySQL Error connecting to database….

    When I try to run wp installation I get the ‘Error connecting to database…’, I checked the username, password and host many times and everything seems to be ok. I read somewhere that this could be due to a problem with MySQL 4.1.7, my web hoster provides version 4.1.14, could this be the reason why it doesn’t work??
    Is there any way to make it work?

    No, the version shouldn’t matter for connection. Can you use the hostname, username and password and connect to the server through a shell prompt??
