Switch between "More Thumbnails" and "Next page"

Is there a chance for a global option where i can switch between the more thumbnails button an next page?

I have loaded for my test some hundreds photos into one gallery. Using the more thumbails button will result in a very long page when there are a lot of pictures. In that case it would be better to scroll through pages.
