    Every one of my test posts seem to start with a password in the password-protection field/area. Is there any way to “default” this to unprotected?

    It should be blank each time you go to write a post, so maybe has to do with your browser cache and cookies. If you’re using 2.0 you might also logout and delete the wp-content/cache folder.
