I think the issue is because of this :

It isn’t an issue with the plugin, just an issue with google docs viewer. No solution for it as of yet.
It is an issue for site owners as your visitors that are in the situation as describe in the link will not see the embedded file and see a big blank screen.
Suggested improvement:
Pat maybe put a message behind the iframe that has a link to the google viewer url that they can click ?
