Did someone just use the F-word?!?!?!
ok heard a lot that frames/tables/font are evil. but if someone want to use them. let them :).
Have a look at Alex King’s site where he hosts over 40 different styles of sites. He also wrote a hack to help make the job of switching styles much easier. You’ll find lots of great ideas and inspiration there.
I know very little about PHP, but I have learned a lot by visiting a number of WP sites and studying their source code and CSS.
Hmm… what’s wrong with the frames? I don’t like to make pages where everything loads up again when u hit some link on the menu. And I don’t like the big scrollbars on the right side of the screen either. I just don’t like it.
I could use iframe but I believe they don’t work in all browsers.

The main problem with frames is that they seriously impede usability and accessability. If using frames is what you want to do, then by all means go for it.
I would think that using frames with WP should be also-ran. Your menu/archives/categories are merely function calls, so they can be anywhere you wish them to be, even by them selves on a page.
The only problem, is that I would assume that you would have to make a call to wp-blog-header.php on each of your pages in your framset, maybe not though.
I will hack something together and post here what I discover.

Me again.
Yeah frames are fine, with a few caveats. You can see a working example of breaking wordpress up across a framed layout here:
http://chrisjdavis.org/frames
Caveats:
-
You will have to include the wp-blog-header.php call in each of your pages that are accessing any built in WP funtion, ie just about every page!
-
You will have to edit the functions for your categories and archives, and pretty much any function you plan to call from one frame that will interact with another, to include the target=”somesuch” so that things in your menu actually effect your blog area.
If you still want to do this, let me know and I can help you make the appropriate changes to your functions, so that this all will work.
Honestly is seems like a lot of work, that can be easily replicated through CSS, and again if you would like to do this, let me know and I can help you with that as well.

Thank you for your help. It seems to be lot of work to make site with frames. Maybe I try to compile it with CSS. I have to see if I can do it and how it affects to the design of my site.
If I use overflow scroll in the main area I suppose I can make it look like the one I already designed.
Thank you. 🙂
Sure, and seriously don’t hesitate to assk for some assistance with this, either from me or one of the other members here.
We like to help.

As others have noted in their posts, I would like my WP blog to display in an iframe on my site.
Others have apparently solved this problem because their questions are more advanced than mine. I just can’t get the blog to display. The blog is at /blogs/index.php The iframe is ‘<iframe name=”salesinfo”>’. I’ve tried
‘ <iframe name=”salesinfo” src=”/blogs/index.php”></iframe> ‘ with no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

I just want to be sure that your choice of frames is not in fact driven by a concern in your own mind that your layout (thanks for the jpg) might be difficult to implement in CSS. There is not really that much in it and if you wanted to it could be done easily so there is no need to be driven towards frames on that score. For me one of the downsides of frames is that they play havoc with our search engine rankings.
