• I have been pulling my freaking hair our try to get this plugin to play nice with my hostgator hosting.

Turns out the selecting ZIP has been the issue for me. Not only did it ALWAYS fail but it killed my site as well.

I selected Tar gZip as the compression method and boom.. it ran smoothly and quickly. It ran in 127 seconds with Tar gZip while the others with ZIP would run over 1500 seconds, die and try to restart.

Kicker is, I hate Tar files. 🙂 Just a preference, but at least I have a backup now and my site doesn’t get bogged down.

Not sure it will help but here is the info from my settings area.
