500 Internal Server Error

oke, here’s the situation

windows xp sp2
apache 1.3.23
php 4.1.1
mysql 3.23.39

i followed the directions to install wordpress
everything in my administration panel works but if i go to the blog i get an 500 internal server error

if i look in my wp-content directory on my hard-drive i only have the sub-directory’s themes and plugins

what did i do wrong?
