Right after wordpress.COM offers an export?
Until then, you might try setting your wordpress.com site’s RSS to have a large number (admin, options, Reading, Syndication) and experiment with the wordpress.ORG rss import option.
Caveat to this is that it won’t get any comments you might have.
For me, importing posts worked fine, using the RSS importer. And the categories were preserved as well.
For comments I used this import script. The weird thing is that, although comments got imported, the comment count still shows zero.
I’m posting the links for you to see
http://bdsays.wordpress.com
http://bdsays.com/blog/
all the post in the hosted blog show zero comments even though they have comments in them. Weird eh?
Is there a link where it explains exactly how to do this importing? I had a blogsome.com blog and would like to import my posts to my wordpress blog.
Any suggestions?
bdsays: read my comments http://dgk.or.id/archives/2005/09/19/migrasi-blogsome-ke-wordpress-pribadi/#comment-2286. You can find howto show up comments at your blogs. Thats because this scripts only import name and content the comments.
HTH
golden: you can import your post and comments from blogsome to your wordpress using my scripts. Read http://dudi.wordpress.com/2005/10/08/howto-migrate-comment-from-blogsome-to-wordpress/.
Read carefully and follow the instructions.
I don’t have the import-rss.php file in my wp-admin directory. Is there somehere it can be downloaded?
What options do you have when you log into your blog as Admin and click on “Import” in the top menu?
Livejournal, dotclear, blogger, moveabletype, textpattern, rss…
I’ve tried importing the rss file that way but it only brings in 10. I tried uploading 10 then deleting ten in the actual xml file as the wordpress doc suggested, but after the first ten, it wouldn’t upload any more.
andsoitislivenet: looks like you are using wordpress 2.0.2 / 2.0.3?
open wp-admin/import and you can find rss.php file. Open that file and edit them.
