• Ok, so here’s the issue. I recently had .htaccess issues so I started a blank file and shutdown all of my plugins, set my permalinks to default. I’m still having issues.

When I use the default permalink structure, I get this message when trying to update plugins:

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/update.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

When I set a custom permalink structure (/%category%/%postname%/) I get a 404 error message when I try to update plugins.

    Please help.

Ok, addendum. I just tried out emptying my spam folders in WordPress. With the custom structure I get a 404 error.

When I set the permalinks to default, I get this message:

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/edit-comments.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Hope this helps.

    Now this is odd.

First for the plugin update. I was able to upgrade the plugin by using the update now text button below the plugin name, but couldn’t use the bulk apply button (see errors above).

As far as getting rid of the spam, I get the errors when I use the main bulk apply button, but I am able to delete each individual spam post with the “delete permanently button below the comment.
