• This is an odd issue that I have never ran into before. When I copy and paste text to the WYSIWYG and then click “update” or “publish” it only saves the first line or so of text that I pasted in. I can type in the WYSIWG, but eventually after so much text it starts deleting that also. I’ve deactivated all plugins, so I know that it isn’t a plugin issue. Any thoughts?

  • Did you try different text or the same text? Wondering because something could be wrong with the formatting you are pasting in.

Also are you pasting in HTML or VISUAL mode?

I’ve tried both HTML & Visual. And I’ve tried multiple different ways to paste it in, from word, from word to notepad to strip formatting, to the WYSIWYG.

Try deactivating all plug-ins and switching to the twentyeleven theme — to try to identify if any of the plugins or the theme are the problem.

I’ve also changed themes to see if it was a theme problem back to the normal twenty eleven theme and it still does it.

    Already tried that.

Ok, played with it a little more. The editor deletes all copy after the first special character. Example: This is Spot’s toy. When I save or update it, it deletes it all the way back to the apostrophe. So it will read “This is Spot” . It works if I put in the html code for the characters, but as soon as a flip it back to visual mode and save, it deletes everything again. Any thoughts?

Thanks WPyogi & Aaron for help!

Does it happen if you type directly into the editor (not copy/paste)? Is this in twentytwelve with all plugins deactivated?

Also try resetting the plugins folder via FTP — some can persist even if deactivated.

If you are using another theme, which one?

with some of them. So if it’s a normal special character, ‘ ” – $ etc. It allows me type it in and it works. If it’s something as an m-dash or something I would hold down the option key to get, it doesn’t.

    I did reset the plugins.

Could this be a server issue not recognizing the characters?

It may be that some characters are problematic… not too long ago, all special characters were problematic for browsers — so you had to use the codes for even apostrophes! You might just want to do that – this is a decent list:
