"Sorry. No data so far." persisting

    I installed WordPress Popular Posts months ago, but even after all this time I still get the “Sorry. No data so far” error.

    I’m running version 2.3.2 of the plugin. My theme doesn’t support widgets, but I put the wpp_get_mostpopular() template code in the sidebar, and I used the shortcode on a test page. I do have the wp_head() code in my header.php as well.

    I dropped the two tables, deactivated, and reactivated the plugin just for fun. I’ve done a lot page visiting (while logged out), and I’m getting entries in the tables.

    However, still nothing in the sidebar, and on the settings page, it also says “no data.” Anything else I can try?

    Hi korey99,

    By default, the wpp_get_mostpopular() template tag will retrieve the most commented posts in the last 24 hours. If none of your posts have recieved comments within that time range, the message “Sorry. No data so far” will be displayed (which, by the way, it’s not an error).

    To switch to the most viewed posts, simply pass order_by=views to the template tag, like this: wpp_get_mostpopular('order_by=views').

    Sorry for the trouble. I see what you mean, and it’s working OK now. The defaults, as shown on the installation page, require a site with more active traffic than mine!

    Hi,

    When I go into the stats and order by views or avg daily views it says Sorry No Data for last 24 hours / 7 days / 30 days and all time.

    It’s only showing stats when I order by comments.

    Is there something I need to do to trigger a view?

    I’m getting the the same error wpp_get_mostpopular(‘order_by=views’) is not working on WP 3.5

    Hi Oudin,

    The plugin has not been tested under WP 3.5 yet, so chances are that something is broken at the time. I’ll check this out as soon as possible.

    Sorry. I read but did not pay attention.
    My version of wordpress is 3.5. Here this the problem.
    The project this on de free repository? I help you to test on 3.5 version?

    Once I get some time to check what’s going on between WPP and WordPress 3.5 and will post a test version here so you can try it out.

    Having the same problem with WP3.5.1, so I guess there is indeed something broken. Sorting by comments work fine, sorting by views shows nothing at all.

    When sorting by comments you can even see that all posts have 0 visits, like:

    Post 1 (5 comments | 0 visits)
    Post 2 (3 comments | 0 visits)
    Post 3 (2 comments | 0 visits)
    Post 4 (1 comments | 0 visits)
    Post 5 (1 comments | 0 visits)

    Hi securamente,

    I’m testing the plugin under WP 3.5.1 and that’s not happening on my end. Views count not being updated could mean that you’re missing the wp_popularpostsdata and the wp_popularpostsdatacache DB tables, or that you’re using a caching plugin not compatible with WPP.

    Can you please share more details about your site?

    Well, I do have those two tables, but apparently they are empty; no idea why my WP is not gathering any information there on my posts 🙁

    I am not using that many plugins, and I do not think I am using any plugin that has relation with caching.

    If these are empty, WPP is having issues trying to update the views count to your database. Does your current theme have the wp_head() tag in it?

    I do see a wp_head() call on header.php

    I am using Graphene theme, which I would say is quite a common WP theme. Theme is untouched, I have not edited any files or done any changes to it. Quite strange, since I do not think my WP installation is uncommon/strange, I have not personalized anything outside from the admin section.
