Error establishing a database connection

    Aaaaahhhhhh. New to WordPress and decided to learn it via the lynda.com tutorial
    I have got to the section where I bring up the browser to handle the wordpress installation and when I put in my details I get this message… Error establishing a database connection. I may give up on wordpress before I have even started!

    Database name – I have put this in
    Username – root
    Password – working locally no password needed so the lynda.com man says
    Database Host – localhost
    Table Prefix – wp_

    Please could someone advice to help me carry on with the tutorial, I have hit a brick wall here : (

    whats your server setup like? local or hosted?

    It’s local I am using MAMP for mac, ok I found that I have to type in root in the password box rather than leave blank and it works I am on the way again now, phew.
