Hide the construction

My installation is taking much longer than planned. I need to hide the construction with a start page.

I searched and found some alternatives. Someone suggested adding an index.html page before the index.php page. That didn’t work. Some one else said not to do that. I tried renaming index.php to index1.php and I think index.php disapeared.

I found an under construction plugin but it was too complicated.

Suggestions??
