Indexing not working and no errors

I’m having trouble indexing this site I’ve built.

I have this in the admin area:

Documents in the index:
Terms in the index:
Highest post ID indexed:

No numbers next to any of those lines. I have done the following:
De-activated and re-activated the plugin – nothing.
Cleared the database (via phpmyadmin) and re-installed – nothing
Followed the code changes here: http://www.relevanssi.com/knowledge-base/how-to-debug-indexing-problems/ to produce errors. No errors given, no list of post IDs number given and an “Indexing complete!” message given, but nothing is indexed after each of the changes.

There are no other search related plugins activated (in case of conflict). All content is in the wordpress pages and posts, with 99% of the content in posts. Nothing is excluded from the index in the settings .

I am completely stumped as to what is going wrong and I have ran out of ideas of what to do.
