In the existing users login table there is a “New User? Click here to register” link which currently goes to the root of my domain. How can I configure this link to send users to my register page? Also, is it possible to completely remove this link?

That link is only generated if you have entered a register page location in the plugin’s options. Check that the value you have in that option is actually your register page.
