I tried lowering the number of related posts like suggested in the FAQs but I still have no related posts on my blog. I have another widget at the bottom of the page that shows at least 5 related posts, but that I would like to get rid of. I would like to use yours, but none are showing up. Please help.

I have a kind of similar problem with No or very fewer related posts.
I use the standard settings.
examples (french websites, bt you’ll understand anyway ;-))

I have the same problem, I set the number of posts even 1 or 2, but the result is always the same:

no related post

Try lowering the match threshold, not the number of related posts. This is under the “Relatedness” options. If you don’t see them, go to the “screen options” tab in the top right to display it. Try a lower number, like 1 or 2, save the settings, and see if you get results.
