Mapping for primary site/blog

I’d like to map http://www.domain.com in a network which primary site was setup with domain.com.
But I can’t add any mappings (i. e. http://www.test.com) to the primary site/blog – is this by design?http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
