• So I set up the custom field with a name and a value and did all that stuff but nothing shows up in the actual post. Like, I go to look at the post like anyone else would see it and nothing is there. Yes, I am new to all this so any help would be much appreciated!

  • Try the following:
    1. Open your post where you added custom field
    2. You will see a tab named ‘Screen Options’ in top right corner of post
    3. Check ‘Custom Fields’ under Show on screen
    4. Then check if you are able to see your custom field

You need to edit the template files to show custom fields, unless it’s built into your theme (hint: not many do because it’s not a great idea). That’s the one big thing that they don’t tell you most times.

A good place to start is at WordPress Theme Development. That’s got a huge range of information that you can use to get started. Remember that it’s really not a simple and easy task to add something like this.

chandanonline4u I know that, but that’s not what I was talking about.

Thanks michael.mariart, I was unaware that themes provided weren’t already set up to show them. Hmmm, why is it not a great idea? I understand that it won’t be simple, having to mess with the template, but hearing that its not a good idea makes me wonder if its worth it 😛
