Plugin updates failing

I receive the notices just fine when there is an update to a plugin but every time I update it I get a notification saying that it failed and this message on the plugin page:

The plugin plugin name has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

I’m sick of having to manually delete (via ftp) and re installing each plugin.
