• I tried an auto upgrade to WP 3.4.1 which didn’t work, so I went ahead via FTP and copied the files and folders manually, but now my page and the login is just white, I also tried to load the upgrade.php file into my browser but it’s also white. No error messages. As far as I could tell I followed the instructions correctly.

Where do I start troubleshooting? Thanks, help will be appreciated.

  • The first thing you may need to check, is if your site is currently running on php5 rather than php4, and that MySQL meets the minimum requirements for WordPress version 3.4.1. The requirements have changed a bit since version 3.0.1, and you might want to verify them before going any further with the troubleshooting, just to be safe.

yes thanks, I checked those beforehand, the server on which my domain is hosted is running PHP 5.2.17 and MySQL 5.0.90.
After I followed the updating instructions on support/docs, I noticed there’s a more detailed “extended upgrading” instructions, which I probably should have followed, if I knew about it. There’s some conflicting instructions; I didn’t delete the wp-config.php file, but I did overwrite it with the new one. Is that bad?

Did you backup before you updated as you should have updated to 3.2 and then 3.4.1.

Do you have database backup before update.

OK thanks, I’m still not sure how to proceed, should I troubleshoot or try to restore the backup?

Re-upload WordPress 3.0.1 and then restore your pre-upgrade database backup. Once the site is working properly again, start working through the extended upgrade steps.

Thank you, by some miracle, after I re-uploaded 3.0.1, I logged in, reactivated the plugins and everything worked fine again. I’m now going to try and upgrade to 3.4.1 using the detailed upgrade instructions this time…any tips?
