i want to know if anyone can help me with coding a title of which category a post is from with a top left corner title over the images on the homepage thumbnail. Below is the link of the site. Thanks

Hi your going to need to use the template tag.
<?php single_cat_title(); ?>

You can read more about this tag here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/single_cat_title

And it looks like from your theme you’ll need to add the tag to entry-meta div which should* be in your archive.php template.

*If your theme uses the standard WordPress theme hierarchy

This didn’t work. Unless i’m placing it in the wrong section. the blog on the site on the homepage is actually a widget. gpp blog post is the name of the widget.
